SCS LegalHarvest™ Verification (LHV) provides independent third-party verification of the legal origin and traceability of timber and forest products. The system addresses the legal right to harvest, process, transport and export timber and includes requirements for forest-level legality verification and Chain of Custody.
LegalHarvest™ can therefore provide useful verified information on legality, origin and traceability to support responsible sourcing and due diligence.
The system can provide supporting evidence for companies addressing requirements such as the US Lacey Act, the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition Act, and other regulations requiring the legal sourcing of timber and wood products. SCS also historically developed LegalHarvest™ in relation to the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR).
For the European market, companies should now consider the additional requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). LegalHarvest™ can provide useful information on legality and traceability, but EUDR compliance may require additional information and verification, particularly regarding geolocation, deforestation and forest degradation.
